The 25th annual series of summer concerts in Galway Cathedral takes place between 5 July and 9 August, on Thursday evenings at 8:00pm.
This year's landmark series includes a screening of a silent movie with live organ accompaniment, a conversation between plainchant, uillean pipes and organ, and the glorious combination of brass and organ, as well as the usual organ recitals by renowned international players.
The North Stars Orchestra, from Washington State in the USA, plays a concert in the Cathedral on the evening of Saturday 23 June. Directed by Sharyn Peterson, the orchstra plays music by Bach, Gerschwin, Saint-Saëns, C. F. Pachelbel and Bernstein.
The concert begins at 7:30pm, and admission is free.
Music for Galway, Irish Baroque Orchestra and Resurgam Choir present a performance of G. F. Handel's ever-popular oratorio Messiah in the Cathedral on Saturday 9 December at 7:30pm.
The Three Tenors - Dominic McGorian, Shane Morgan and Derek Moloney - present a concert of popular classical music in the Cathedral on Thursday 21 December at 8:00pm. The choir of Scoil Íde will also appear on the night.
Local Galway group The A Capella Knights will present two Christmas concerts entitled The Knights before Christmas, in aid of Galway Simon Community, in the Cathedral on Saturday 2 December: a children’s concert at 3:00pm and an evening concert at 7:45pm.
"Breath upon the Flame" - a candlelit concert of traditional music re-imagined for voice, brass, strings and percussion, featuring Eimear Quinn and Dublin Brass Ensemble.
The Esker Festival Orchestra, conducted by Peter Joyce, gives a concert in the Cathedral on Friday 25 August at 8:00pm. The programme includes Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6 ("Pathetique") and Maher's Songs of a Wayfarer with mezzo-soprano Caroln Holt. Tikects are €15 (concessions €10) at the door.
Charlottesville High School Orchestra, from the USA, gives a concert in the Cathedral on Sunday 25 June 2017 at 8:00pm. Admission is free.
The programme includes Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, Dvorak's American Quartet, Copland's Hoedown and other music.
Galway Baroque Singers are joined by Dún Laoghaire Choral Society for a concert of music by Vivaldi for choir and orchestra. The concert takes place on Saturday 17 June 2017 at 8:00pm. The choir and orchestra are conducted by David Brophy.
