Esker Festival Orchestra

The Esker Festival Orchestra gives a concert in the Cathedral on Friday 25 August at 8:00pm. The programme includes Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6 ("Pathetique") and Maher's Songs of a Wayfarer with mezzo-soprano Caroln Holt. Tikects are €15 (concessions €10) at the door.

The orchestra brings together 65 Irish and international emerging young professional musicians and is conducted by Galway- born Peter Joyce (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna). Besides the major Tchaikovsky and Mahler works mentioned above, its 2017 programme includes a world premiere of a new work, Iridescence, by young Irish composer Christopher Moriarty (winner of the 2017 Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year).
