On 2 November each year we remember all those "who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection" (eucharistic prayer II). Mass is celebrated in the Cathedral at the usual times of 11:00am and 6:00pm.
Plenary indulgences are available on All Souls Day and each day up to 8 November: more details here.
Novena for the Faithful Departed
A novena of masses for our deceased loved ones is celebrated in the Cathedral between Saturday 2 November and Sunday 10 November, with specific intentions each day as follows:
- Saturday 2 November: for deceased parents, grandparents and family members, whose love and caring shaped our lives.
- Sunday 3 November: for all who died in the last year, and for those who continue to grieve their absence.
- Monday 4 November: for emigrants and those who died far from home, separated from loved ones but not from our prayers.
- Tuesday 5 November: for deceased clergy and religious, who dedicated their lives to serving God and others.
- Wednesday 6 November: for babies, children and young people who died too soon, leaving us with unfilled dreams and deep sorrow.
- Thursday 7 November: for those who died by suicide, and for the healing of families and communities affected by this loss.
- Friday 8 November: for victims of tragic accidents, unexpected deaths, and those lost in sudden circumstances.
- Saturday 9 November: for refugees, migrants, and those displaced by conflict or disaster, who died seeking safety and hope.
- Sunday 10 November: for those killed in war, violence, and natural disasters, and for innocent lives lost in global turmoil.
