Sandnessund Blandakor

We are delighted to welcome Sandnessund Blandakor, from the far north of Norway, to sing at the 6:00pm mass on Thursday 21 May 2026. The choir introduces itself:

"Sandnessund Blandakor is an amateur choir from Norway, from the city of Tromsø far north of the polar circle where there are two months without sun in the wintertime, and two months with midnight sun in the summertime. Our conductor is Sissel Helland. She has conducted the choir since it was established in 1979.

"We sing mainly songs from the local folk music tradition and from Norwegian song writers. But we also sing from a classic European repertoire. Every year when the sun returns in January we have a concert to welcome the sun. Many of our songs are arranged specially for our choir, and several of them have afterwards been published at national publishing companies.

"Every fifth year the choir travels abroad. This year we have chosen to go to Ireland."
