The Waterbury Chorale, from Connecticut in the USA, gives a concert in the Cathedral on Friday 1 July 2016 at 8:00pm. The choir is directed by Joseph Jacovino Jr, and accompanied on the organ by Jenny Li.

About the Choir
The Waterbury Chorale was established in 1967 to provide an opportunity for singers from the Greater Waterbury, Connecticut (USA), area to enjoy and perform outstanding musical literature.
Current members of the Chorale reside in many Connecticut communities, including Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Cheshire, Farmington, Goshen, Hamden, Litchfield, Meriden, Middlebury, Middletown, Morris, Naugatuck, New Milford, Newtown, Oakville, Oxford, Prospect, Redding, Southbury, Terryville, Thomaston, Torrington, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott, and Woodbury.
About the Director
This is Joseph J. Jacovino’s 11th season as Director of the Waterbury Chorale.
He graduated from the Hartt College of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and from the Manhattan School of Music with a Masters Degree in Music Education. He retired in 2014 after 35 years as the Director of Music at Holy Cross High School, Waterbury, where he taught music theory, directed the concert band, jazz band, piano class, guitar and string ensembles, handbell choir, and the orchestras for spring musicals.
He has been the organist, cantor and choir director at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, for the past 16 years and in the latter capacity led a fifty-voice choir on a musical pilgrimage to Italy in July 2005. The choir itinerary included one concert each in Rome and Florence, performance of a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and an audience with Pope Benedict XVI.
Mr. Jacovino is currently a member of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, and accompanist for the Connecticut Master Chorale, the Collegium at the Taft School in Watertown, The Heritage Singers and the choirs at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School. He has performed extensively as an accompanist throughout Connecticut for other choral groups as well and for CMEA festivals.
As a composer, Mr. Jacovino has written several sacred choral pieces and masses, including “Christmas at the Palace” (a tribute to the Waterbury Palace Theater), “Enshrined in the Grace of God”, dedicated to Waterbury’s Shrine of St. Anne, and “Something Beautiful for God”, based upon a prayer by Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Mr. Jacovino has appeared on numerous occasions as organist and pianist in both classical and jazz styles and has been an active soloist throughout Connecticut, including piano soloist with the Waterbury Symphony orchestra, New Britain Symphony, Naugatuck Valley Community College Orchestra, St. Rose Festival Orchestra, and Connecticut Master Chorale Orchestra. Joe lives in Middlebury with his wife Roberta, and son Jay. His daughter Sara is a professional composer/arranger/performer, living in NYC.
